Carol Durrum "I paint because I love every aspect of creating a work of art.....from choosing the subject to experiencing the aroma and the feel of the paint as it is brushed on the canvas; the problem solving, and the thrill of watching the painting come to life. My intent is always to create a beautiful picture that interprets the essence of the subject with artistic sensitivity." Carol Durrum is a late bloomer in the world of art. "I have always been creative and did many crafts but did not know I had artistic talent until the early 1990's. I received a paint set for Christmas from my husband and from the first picture I painted I was hooked. Since then I have taken classes at the local college and numerous workshops with many excellent artists to include: David Leffel, Xian Zhang, Joe Ann Arnett, to name a few. I have studied and been influenced by the works of many of the old masters and the impressionists." Born in 1955 to Al and Rita Dupont at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, Carol has lived and traveled all over the world. She graduated from high school in Mannheim, Germany and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Economics from Christopher Newport College in Virginia. She is married to Frank Durrum and they have three grown children. Her husband and family have been a great support in her new career. The greatest single factor in her development and success so far is hard work. "There is no substitue for brush time." Almost from the start Carol has had success in sales and has won many top awards in shows. Her paintings are in corporate and private collections throughout the country. She currently displays her work in Longview, Texas at York Antiques and In Mt. Vernon, Texas at The Frame Up and Fine Arts Gallery. Her work can also be viewed by appointment at her studio in Mt. Pleasant by calling 903-572-6996. |
