JUDY WILDER-DALTON

My first interest in art began in high school biology class, when we had to copy all the drawings in the textbook. From there I began drawing everything from comic books to pictures of my friends. I began painting, taking classes and workshops in my early twentys. Later my training developed more through the classic venue of apprenticeships. I continue to take workshops and seek out the advice of artist I admire whenever I can.Although I paint in oil, pastel and watercolor, I have devoted my studio time this past year to experimental watercolor techniques using watercolors, acrylic, gesso, inks and other materials on watercolor paper. My approach is to use layers of color, various textures and design structures to create a design that will elicit emotion within the viewer without the intent to establish a theme or message. My work is often titled according to how it speaks to me. Leaving room for different interpretations by the viewer. Each painting becomes a mystery to be solved by the viewer’s imagination. When painting in oil or pastel I most often use a subject such as a still life, landscape, or figure. However, the elements of form, line, color and texture are my focus. I love the delicacy, vigor, and beauty in them apart from the subject. I would describe my style as more expressionistic than realistic.
